The Veil Codex: Who’s Walking With You
“To truly make sense of the cosmos, you don’t study just one star. You study the whole sky.”
— Lola Reyna
It started in the spring of 2024. I was walking through Caesars Palace in Las Vegas when I stopped — there she was. The Birth of Venus, rendered in gold and cream on an album cover in a shop window. I didn’t think much of it then. A few weeks later, she appeared again in a movie. Then a shell on the beach, perfectly intact, in a moment I wasn’t looking for anything at all.
I’ve learned that when she starts appearing like that — in ordinary places, unprompted, insistent — it means she is not decorating my life. She is announcing something. Now I know: every time Venus goes retrograde, Botticelli’s painting finds me first. Before I check the astrology. Before I look at the sky. She sends the image.
This post is for everyone who has felt her arriving without knowing her name. She has been sending you signs too.
She Does Not Arrive by Accident
The Birth of Venus
Botticelli’s Venus is not born — she arrives. Fully formed, fully grown, carried to shore on a shell by the wind. This is not a goddess who earned her way in. She is love itself — and love does not earn its arrival.
Every element of the painting is a transmission:
- The Sea — the unconscious, emotion, the womb of creation
- The Shell — the vessel, the spiral, the shape of all growth
- Zephyrus — spirit and breath; she is carried, not striving
- The Horae — timing, ripeness, the right moment
- Her Nudity — no mask, no armor, complete authenticity
She does not earn her arrival. She is love itself — arriving on time.
The Descent
The 40 Days & 40 Nights
When Venus turns retrograde, she vanishes from the evening sky for roughly 40 days and 40 nights. Ancient cultures didn’t call this a technical transit. They called it a descent into the underworld.
The Sumerian myth of Inanna tells the story first: she passes through seven gates on her way down. At each gate, she surrenders something — her crown, her jewels, her robes, her power. She arrives before her dark sister with nothing. She dies. She is restored. She rises.
Venus retrograde is not punishment. It is a descent to retrieve what was lost.
